The Gaucho Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Advisory Committee was established in Fall 2013 to oversee the functioning of the UCSB student insurance program and to provide broad input from campus stakeholders in annual plan benefit design and premium negotiations. The Committee includes representation from both undergraduate and graduate students, university officials, and representatives from campus student services. They make annual recommendations for SHIP changes to the Chancellor, through the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Dean of the Graduate Division.

Meetings begin in early Fall to consider changes for the next school year, with a final decision by mid-February. The Committee members welcome feedback and suggestions by email

Looking for ways to get more involved on campus?  Become a Student Representative on the UC SHIP EXECUTIVE OVERSIGHT BOARD.

As a student representative on the UC SHIP EOB, you have the opportunity to review and evaluate the UC SHIP benefits and the plan's financial performance. This shared governance structure ensures organized dialogue between students and administration about the benefits offered by UC SHIP.

How it works. The student government from each campus selects one graduate and one undergraduate as a representative to sit on the UC SHIP EOB to review and vote annually on UC SHIP benefits (e.g., medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, and behavioral health coverage).

The EOB meets once a month, during the academic year, to review the financial performance of the plan. They also make recommendations on how to balance new requests while maintaining affordable health plan costs for students. For more information on becoming an EOB member, contact sa-shsinsurance@ucsb.edu.

Note:
Student representatives must be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP).
