Strongly Advised Additional Coverage for Students with APPROVED Waivers

GAP coverage ensures that students with APPROVED waivers have access to local medical care while attending UCSB. If the health insurance plan for an APPROVED waiver has a provider network limited to a county outside of Santa Barbara (e.g., MediCal or other State plans which can only be used in their home county), we strongly advise students to enroll in GAP.

GAP is not an insurance policy nor does it intend to act as an insurance product. The APPROVED insurance plan that the student used to waive UC SHIP would remain the student's primary/sole insurance.

Services offered in GAP coverage are subject to change.

Cost: $480 per Academic Year

Billed quarterly to your BARC account at $160/quarter

Note: There is no prorated monthly rate.

Deadline for GAP enrollment for Fall 2021:  October 1, 2021

(If you enroll mid-term you must pay full price for the entire term AND the effective date for GAP will be the date the request was received by the UCSB Insurance Team.)

Price Comparison:

Paying out of pocket for three office visits at Student Health will cost MORE than the price of GAP for the one quarter.
