Travel Insurance for UCEAP Participants
If you are participating in a UCEAP program, your primary medical insurance is a Travel Insurance policy, which is mandatory for all UCEAP participants and is included in your UCEAP Fees, billed in your UCEAP portal. You can view your insurance card and details in your UCEAP portal under Predeparture - Insurance. It covers medically necessary treatment for illness and injuries and prescription medications 100% anywhere in the world, except the US, on a reimbursement basis.
However, it does not cover preventative care, which means that the Travel Insurance for UCEAP participants does not satisfy UCSB's insurance requirement, and it cannot be used to waive out of UCSHIP insurance. If you have purchased different insurance that meets UCSB's waiver criteria, you may apply for a UCSHIP waiver. If you do not waive out of UCSHIP (or your waiver is denied) then you will be billed for UCSHIP at a reduced rate for EAP participants to your UCSB BARC account.
Travel Insurance for Non-UCEAP Students
UCSB students traveling internationally on a UC-sponsored and supervised activity or as part of a degree program have access to supplemental basic accident and sickness coverage, as well as emergency support provided by the UC Travel Insurance. It covers medically necessary treatment for illness and injuries that occur during your trip and prescription medications 100% anywhere in the world, except the US, on a reimbursement basis.
Please review the Policy Summary, which describes the medical and non-medical benefits.
