What You Need to Know about Your Health Insurance

Health Insurance is mandatory for all UCSB registered students and a condition of enrollment. The Gaucho Health Insurance Plan (GHI) is a comprehensive medical insurance program offered to UCSB students. All registered students are automatically enrolled in GHI, but if you have comparable insurance and you do not want to keep GHI as dual coverage, you must submit a request to waive enrollment by the specified deadline. For more information on what your plan covers, please visit the GHI 2014-15 page.

New Waiver Information

  • The statement regarding the new GHI Waiver Criteria can be found here.

  • The waiver process can take up to two weeks.

  • All registration fees must still be paid by the deadline. If the waiver is accepted, then the credit will post to your BA/RC account in 5 business days.

Need a temporary ID card?

After the first day of the quarter, while waiting for your permanent card, you may print a temporary insurance ID card (for medical, dental and vision coverage). This is available on the Aetna Website. For instructions, click here.
