Student Health

GAP is a prepaid access product offered through UCSB’s Student Health Services for GHI waived students. GAP is not an insurance product but rather a convenient way for students to access many core services without incurring additional charges. Inclusions and exclusions are listed below.

2017-18 Period of Coverage: September 24, 2017-September 22, 2018.

GAP is offered quarterly when waiving GHI and is a commitment for the remainder of the year as long as the waiver is in effect. A notice will be included in the waiver renewal notification with enrollment instructions.

$480/year - Academic year 2017-18
Note: Your BARC account will be billed quarterly at $160/quarter.

Pre-Fall Individual Program Costs:

  • TEP:     $118.00
  • FSSP/TSSP:  $67.00

VOLUNTARY enrollment for registered students with approved waivers

REQUIRED for waived students with insurance plans exclusive to any county outside of Santa Barbara

NOT AVAILABLE for students:

  • on approved leave
  • graduated
  • cancelled
  • withdrawn
  • non-students

There are two ways to enroll:

Through our Gateway portal,
Send us an email (Make sure you include your perm # AND that we have a valid waiver on file)

If a waived student’s health insurance plan has a provider network limited to a county outside of Santa Barbara (e.g., MediCal or other State plans which can only be used in their home county), they will automatically be assessed the GAP charge on their BARC bill. GAP will ensure students have access to local medical care while attending UCSB as mandated by the UC Regents. GAP is not an insurance product nor does it intend to act as an insurance product. The insurance plan used to waive GHI would remain the students primary/sole insurance.
