A MESSAGE ABOUT WAIVERS FROM THE UCSB STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE OFFICE
Recently we performed our routine semi-annual verifications of insurance plans for students who were granted a waiver from the mandatory UCSB student health insurance program last Fall. Many plans change in January, and students who failed this recent verification were notified in a series of 4 email and text communications asking them to provide their current insurance information if they wanted their waiver to continue. If they did not provide their current insurance information for verification, they will be charged the quarterly premium for Gaucho Health Insurance on the Spring quarter BARC statement. Spring premiums cover all of summer until Fall quarter begins.
If students or their parents feel this charge was made in error, they should contact us immediately at SHSWaivers@sa.ucsb.edu or call (805) 893-2592.
Continuing students who currently have an insurance waiver do not need to re-submit their request for the academic year 2017-18. However, those students should check their emails to ensure that we were able to successfully verify their coverage and extend the waiver, or if additional information is needed. These verifications for Fall 2017 will begin in late May 2017, and students should expect email notification by June 2017.
FOR WAIVED STUDENTS:
The Gaucho Health Insurance (GHI) fee is removed from your BARC account within 3 business days of being approved. If your GHI Health Fee is not removed from your BARC account after 3 business days please contact the Insurance Office. Thank you for your patience!
PLEASE NOTE: All waiver requests are electronically verified prior to the start of each quarter (including Fall). If the information in the waiver is not verified as correct by the insurance company, the waiver will be denied, the premium for GHI will appear on the billing statement (BARC) and the student will be enrolled in GHI.
