Hepatitis B Information

All new University of California students who are under 19 years of age as of the first day of classes are required by California state law to provide certification of immunity to the Hepatitis B virus prior to enrollment. If you have not yet certified your immunity, visit Hepatitis B Immunity Certification and follow the instructions on the certification website. If this requirement is not completed, a block will be placed on your registration.

Since the Hepatitis B shot series has been a state requirement upon entering high school since 2002, most students have completed the series. If you cannot locate your immunization records, most high schools keep this information on file or record it on your transcript. Do not start the shots over if you can’t find your immunization records. You can have a simple blood test that will show immunity (titer).

If you do not complete this requirement, a block will be placed on your registration for fall quarter. If the block is not cleared by the third week of classes, your registration status will be lapsed.

If you have not received all 3 shots, you must follow the accelerated schedule and complete the shots by spring quarter. Registration for spring quarter begins the first part of February. If you have not provided proof of completion of the series prior to spring registration, a hard block may be placed on your registration. Hard blocks prevent you from registering for any classes.

You may come to Student Health to be given the vaccine. We open most days at 8:00 am and no appointment is needed. The charge will be automatically billed through your BARC account.

For optimal medical care, please fax your immunization records to 805-893-2758. You will not receive a confirmation but the document will be incorporated into your permanent electronic medical record.
