Summer 2012 Coverage

If you have UC SHIP in Spring quarter 2013, your SHIP insurance coverage stays in effect, worldwide, until midnight September 22, 2013. You may still utilize the services of Student Health (SH) through the summer, or you may submit claims for insurance coverage to see other providers if you are out of the area. Complete details of your insurance plan coverage can be found by clicking here.

If you are newly admitted to UCSB for Fall quarter, 2013, and are enrolling in summer session, you are eligible to purchase our new plan Gaucho Health Insurance (GHI) for the summer. You must enroll in this plan directly with Wells Fargo by calling 800-853-5894. You will be automatically enrolled in GHI in the Fall since health insurance is mandatory.

I.D. Cards for Health Insurance

Print a SHIP identification card to carry with you here.  In addition, one will be mailed to you by Anthem Blue Cross.

Finding a Preferred Provider

You will have significant savings and more coverage if you use providers in the Anthem/Blue Cross network.  You may fine providers throughout the USA by accessing the Anthem website.

How to Bill for Medical Care Outside of Student Health

    1. Ask the care provider to send the bill directly to the Anthem address on your SHIP I.D. card. All Anthem providers are familiar with the filing process. You do not need to file a separate claim form.
    2. ALL non-emergency care services outside of Student Health requires a referral. If you are outside of Santa Barbara please call the Student Health Insurance office at 805-893-2592.

    Pharmacy Benefits

The Student Health Pharmacy offers mail order service for refills and new prescriptions.

You may have a prescription filled at a pharmacy outside of Student Health, as long as they accept Anthem/Blue Cross.

    Remember

Non-emergency benefits are not paid for medical expenses incurred outside of Student Health without a referral. If you have dual coverage (have another insurance plan beside SHIP), you must still obtain a referral from SH if you plan on claiming any benefits from your student insurance plan.
